The long-suppressed Funk City Heat 1970s soundtrack by Polyester Sound Machine  is finally released in 2026

After more than 50 years gathering dust and holding the unofficial world record for the most litigated movie and soundtrack in history, Funk City Heat: The Motionless Picture Soundtrack by Polyester Sound Machine is finally due for release in 2026.

The original soundtrack to the movie of the same name takes us on a rollicking journey through the underbelly of Funk City on a thrill ride, unique in music history.

Though the movie famously became mired in lawsuits and was ultimately scrubbed from existence, the soundtrack remains as a testament to the sheer power of Polyester Sound Machine's brilliance.

Hailing from the heart of Funk City, the epicentre of groove and the breeding ground of massive musical movements such as clunk and hand jive, Polyester Sound Machine built a towering edifice to these seminal styles on Funk City Heat.

From the high speed action of Car Chase and Showdown At Gemini's Lair to the dark noir intrigue of The House On The Hill, Polyester Sound Machine have built a complex world that dances to the whims of master criminal Gemini and will have you on the edge of your seat as Inspector Harrison chases down the suspect by any means necessary.

With the movie lionised by some at the time for its daring and risky guerrilla production, the soundtrack equally pulls no punches, and you can almost taste the lead fumes and despair of the crime plagued denizens of Funk City as they hustle their way through the early 70s.

Not surprisingly, the band and composer GP Stone Snr developed something of a love/hate relationship with the album; immense pride in the work but wary of the can of worms a release might open. After the death of Corduroy Slim, the last surviving member of Polyester Sound Machine in 2025, the way was cleared to release the album in its entirety according to the wishes of the band.

In keeping with the bizarre history of this project the band and producer formulated a tontine of sorts where all agreed to release the album upon the death of the last surviving member. As such, it fell to legendary Funk City label Hand Jive Records to finally release this historic recording.

Though once impossible due to the physical restrictions of vinyl, Funk City Heat is set to visuals and will be screened as one long track to allow you to experience the closest thing to seeing the movie as anyone will ever get. So fire up the lava lamp. Put on your bell bottoms and hold on to your hat. You're in for a ride like no other!

Funk City Heat: The Motionless Picture Soundtrack will be available on all streaming and download services on March 2, 2026.

The Funk City Heat listening party and album launch will be held on March 6, 2026 at the Black Sheep Inn, Wakefield and will include an exclusive screening of the album set to visuals and a live set of funk classics by The Village Quartet.
